This paper presents a Structural Health Monitoring system utilizing measurements of the electromechanical impedance for damage assessment. The architecture and main hardware components of the system are described. The results of laboratory damage detection experiments performed for different types of mechanical structures are shown and discussed. On the basis of obtained findings remarks and guidelines for the further exploitation of the SHM system are proposed.
